Watch this video to get a great overview of textiles in Laos. This mini-documentary was released back in 2019. It follows the story of an Australian woman named Trish who, with the help of donors, opens a textile teaching school in Muang Nan, Luang Prabang province.
It covers the textiles of different ethnic groups across multiple provinces, including, but not limited to:
- Ethnic groups: Yao-Mien, Hmong, Katu, Tai Dam
- Textiles: Kneedle point, patch work, bead work, weaving made by deaf/mute individuals, silk making, crochet bags made from jungle vine
- Provinces: Xiengkhouang, Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang
The video is part travelogue, part textile learning, and part documentary - and all wonderful! Have a watch.
