Water Throwing Festival

Image:  Perhaps the most internationally well-known event is the Water Throwing Festival which is a part of the Lao New Year celebrations.  In Southeast Asia during these times, the weather is in excess of 35-40 degrees (celsius) - a perfect time to have a water party!

The origins of this event was that people would pour water on to each other as a way to give blessings.  In modern times, people take to the streets and have an all out water fight with the use of anything that can throw water - be it a bucket, a water gun or a water hose.  As seen in these pictures, people have also expanded to not just water but also baby powder.
