Buffalo Portraits
There's probably no other animal that people associate with southeast Asia more so than the water buffalo.
From the genus balbulis and domesticated thousands of years ago, these buffaloes are found across Laos, from the city to the country side. Traditionally, they're used as beasts of burden on the rice fields to being slaughtered for meat.
In Laos, you'll sometimes find that they've been left to wander on their own. And if you take boat rides on the Mekong River, you'll sometimes see them come down for a drink.
In tribute to this iconic beast, we're featuring these 2 portraits.
