For anyone who makes rice, you've probably heard these words around a Lao kitchen or food talk.
While we're on the topic of rice here's some additional tidbits:
- Sticky rice is steamed in a bamboo basket but has to be soaked for a few hours first before cooking. After steaming it's placed into a bamboo basket holder.
- Regular rice is boiled and doesn't require soaking.
- With both types of rice, you have to wash and rinse the rice until the water runs clear.
