Yes the cost
of living is low in Laos. But there's also another side to do that.
If you're a foreigner living in Laos, you can expect higher costs
on everything (ex. when you go shopping in the market, when you
use a tuk-tuk, your utlities and water bills, etc.). Lao people
will automatically charge you more since they see you're a foreigner
and most people in Laos assume that foreigners have lots of money,
which of course is not always the case.
It is for these reasons
that the cost of living is not as low as one would assume. Therefore
the low pay paid by some schools in Laos for being a teacher is
not congruent to the higher cost of living foreigners/ex-pats have.
In addition to the fact that many also have bills in their home
country that they also pay for while still living and working in
Laos.
Good question.
We do intend to showcase more of the submissions starting this month
(Aug 2004). The graphic designer has been very busy thus the utilization
of the photos has only been modest this past year. You're going
to enjoy seeing more of what submitters have sent in very soon.
Gorgeous Lao model photos
on the net...more to come. I can just feel the excitement. ;-)
P.S. Thanks to all those
who have sent in photos!
