Yes,
it's true. As many might have read on online news sites or have
heard from colleagues, Laos will be holding elections on February
24 2002. Which is a year earlier than expected since Laos normally
holds elections every five years.
There is the
expected usual schuffle of government individuals. More importantly
as reported in the news, the early elections are suppose to bring
more transparency to the government and increase the democratic
voting process. Additionally, the early elections are said to help
reinforce Laos' willingness to change and to help please donor aid
countries. The election is also a part of the national development
plan and reforms.
Funding for
the election will come from both state and business enterprises.
The number of
members will be increased to 107 from its orginal amount of 99.
